If you are here it is because you are considering the idea of being a Volunteer Community First Responder for the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.

We are really grateful for the positive impact Volunteering has for our local Community and proud to have many people who have moved from Volunteer to Career with us.

Here is just a little more information for you to consider before you provide your details:

You need to be over 18 years of age.
Hold a full current driving licence with a maximum of 3 penalty points (we complete a driving assessment with you)
Have a roadworthy vehicle suitable for responding in/on under normal driving conditions and the correct insurance for this
Time to undertake a period of training with us, involving both theory and practical based assessment which is normally held over 5 consecutive days and completed over 6 further days of observed practice with our Ambulance Crews
You will need to attend 10 mandatory training sessions over a 12 month period as well as online learning periodically
A minimum of 6 hours a month Volunteering is suggested to help maintain competency, although this is not a rigid ‘rule’
Be kind, caring, compassionate and have a desire to help others
We can pay a mileage rate per mile for training and responding duties
Through Volunteering we give back to our local community but we also gain a great sense of purpose and fulfillment as well as social enjoyment and knowledge and skills from our training
A uniform is provided although it is not essential to always wear it as long as you have your Isle of Wight NHS CFR identity badge clearly displayed
